Why We FIGHT!
Breakaway From Cancer was born in the face of devastation. This organization took shape when the cancer diagnosis was given to a relative and close friend of board members. Emily, Breakaway From Cancer’s first Guiding Light Grant Recipient, received her stage four breast cancer diagnosis in September 2021. The founding members, John, Brian, Beth and Amy saw first hand from Emily how physically and mentally exhausting it can be and decided that they may not be able to make cancer go away but could aid Emily in another way - by easing the financial burden it left on Emily and her husband Shane. The four of them decided that they wanted to create a place for those that are battling cancer to receive financial assistance. Emily inspired them with how she remained positive and focused her attention on living her life while slowly winning her cancer battle. With her being the reason for creating this organization, Breakaway From Cancer hopes to provide assistance to those in need for years to come.

As a national 501(c)3 , we rely on the support of individuals and businesses to help fund our program and services. Any support offered will be presented as a tax-deductible donation that will directly enhance our efforts and aid us in achieving our goals of helping those in need.
