Join us for “Cans and Calves for a Cause,” a charity barrel racing and breakaway event proudly supporting Breakaway From Cancer. Taking place October 31–November 2, 2025, at Garwood Arena in Columbiana, Ohio, this event brings together horsemen, families, and fans for a weekend of competition and community — all in the name of hope.

With added money events, sidepots, and a Breakaway Series, every run helps make a difference. Attendees can also enjoy a Chinese auction and BFC merchandise booth, with proceeds supporting Breakaway From Cancer’s mission to provide financial aid and emotional support for those battling cancer.

Every loop thrown and every barrel turned helps raise awareness, fund grants, and bring hope to those who need it most.

WELCOME TO BREAKAWAY FROM CANCER!

We are a National 501(c)3 Nonprofit organization that aims to provide social, emotional and financial support to U.S. citizens in the equine community diagnosed with cancer.

Four individuals inspired by a friend’s courage and determination in the face of a dire cancer diagnosis set out to help one person financially—and discovered a calling to help many more. Volunteer founding members John, Brian, Amy, and Beth have all been involved with horses throughout their lives. In 2022, they formed Breakaway From Cancer, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support to individuals within the equine community who are currently battling cancer.

With the help of an additional six-member volunteer board, Breakaway From Cancer has hit the ground running. In just three short years, we’ve provided financial assistance to 12 individuals, awarding $120,000 to date.

Please take some time to review our website to better understand what our person of inspiration and guiding light grant recipients have faced daily and you will understand why we are on a mission to have them and future beneficiaries of our nonprofit Breakaway From Cancer!
